Jiu JitsuJiu Jitsu (or simply "Jitsu" as most practitioners of our style refer to it) is a martial art developed on the battlefields of feudal Japan by the legendary Samurai warriors. Translating as "gentle" or "yielding" art, Jiu Jitsu is an excellent form of self defence and is based on a wide and versatile range of techniques including strikes, locks, and throws. Jiu Jitsu is a martial art in which the defence can be tailored to the attack, and being an art bred from war it also includes a wide range of techniques to deal with armed attackers as well. Being based upon the principal of using an aggressor’s energy against him, Jitsu skills can be used students of any size, age, gender or physical ability to counter aggressive situations ranging from harassment to physical assault. The YorkJitsu site contains a wealth of information about many aspects of the art of Jiu Jitsu. These are accessible through two main methods.
